Welcome to the Canadian Chapter (Vancouver) of International Bank Note Society

All collectors or merchants of world paper money are welcome to join us. Chapter meeting visits are free. Or, join the IBNS for a nominal annual fee and expand your horizons internationally with journals and newsletters from the IBNS. You do not have to be an IBNS member to attend chapter meetings and programs, although IBNS membership does bring many educational advantages and allows you to vote or run for chapter office.

OUR NEXT MEETING

TIME: Tuesday, June 29th, 2010.

Social gathering begins at 6:30pm. Program starts at 7:00pm.

PLACE: Burnaby Public Library, 6100 Willingdon Ave in Burnaby

PROGRAM: This meeting we will all contribute a little something. Bring along any banknote that has the number 5 in its denomination and/or a story to tell about it. It doesn't even have to be a banknote, it could be a catalogue 5th edition or anything related to the banknote hobby. A display of rare notes containing the number 5 will also be shown.

Interesting Note of the Month

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the Bermuda £1 note of 1957.

Why Collect Paper Money?

1) Paper money is colorful and artistic

2) Paper money shows national and political history

3) Compared to coins or other collectibles it's relatively easy to store and transport

4) Every bank note is an individual art work you can save

5) Paper money collecting as a hobby can be started with very little financial outlay

6) Collecting paper money improves your understanding of monetary systems and finance

7) Excellent catalogues are available to assist in your collection building and knowledge

8) Diligent collecting and raised knowledge levels can lead to you discovering new notes or important information to be shared with other collectors

9) With modern payment systems overtaking a cash commerce in North America, paper money collecting also relates to financial nostalgia

10) Unlike coins or stamps, paper money issuers generally do not issue collector material, so anything you put in your collection is almost always the real article as used in the home country, often available for merely the face value and almost always can be cashed in later or traded away for other notes as you upgrade your collection
